Daraja Terms of Use
Last updated October 30, 2026
These Terms govern your use of Daraja and its related services. By continuing from the final onboarding screen, you agree to these Terms and acknowledge the Privacy Policy available beside that button. Your agreement is with the developer identified on Daraja’s App Store listing. You can read both documents again in Settings → Privacy & app lock.
1. Your choices
Use Daraja only where you can enter this agreement, with a parent or guardian’s involvement where required. You are responsible for your account access, recovery code and the content you choose to submit.
Accepting these Terms does not switch on photo checks, publish a reflection, join a Pact, enable sync or grant iPhone permissions. Optional features require the choices shown in their own screens. You can use the private journal without enabling them.
2. Worship, prayer times and reminders
Daraja supports your own worship and reflection. Its content, scores, XP and automated checks are not religious rulings, judgments of sincerity, or measures of your standing with Allah. Consult a qualified person for religious, medical or other professional advice.
Prayer times depend on your saved location, calculation method and time settings. Check them against a trusted local source. Alarms, notifications and app restrictions depend on device permissions, settings and service availability. Daraja automatically maintains a queue of future Fajr alarms from your saved prayer settings, including when you dismiss an alarm. Device restrictions can limit scheduling or background refresh. Keep another alarm for anything essential.
3. Optional photo checks
When you enable photo checks and allow uploads, the photo you capture is sent through Daraja to OpenAI to recognize a sink or prayer mat. Do not photograph people, identifying details, or anything you do not have permission to send. Camera access alone is not permission to upload.
Daraja does not keep check-in photos. OpenAI may retain submitted data for up to 30 days for abuse monitoring, or longer where legal or safety obligations require it. The Privacy Policy and the photo privacy screen explain the processing before you allow it. Turning the feature off stops future checks; it cannot recall a photo already processed.
Recognition can be wrong or unavailable. It checks an object, not whether you prayed. Prayer logging remains available without a photo bonus. With the Fajr wake-up photo enabled, Stop pauses the alarm for five minutes; a recognized photo ends the repeats, and repeats stop at sunrise. If checks are unavailable, the photo screen offers a way to end that morning’s alarm.
4. Anonymous sharing and AI review
Sharing is optional. Only the copy you review and choose to submit is shared; your private journal and other entries are not automatically published. Before submission, remove names, contact details, precise locations and details that could identify you or someone else. A public copy can still be recognizable from its story even when your account name is hidden.
Submitted copies go through Daraja’s service and OpenAI for safety and privacy review. Authorized human reviewers may review them too. The submission screen asks permission for AI review of that copy. OpenAI’s retention limits are described in the Privacy Policy. Approval is not a guarantee of accuracy, anonymity or religious endorsement.
You keep ownership of your writing. By submitting a copy, you give Daraja permission to process, review and display that copy to the audience you selected, and to make technical copies needed to operate and protect the service. This permission does not extend to your other private writing. You can withdraw a submission using its Remove control. Withdrawal stops its display in Daraja, but cannot remove screenshots or copies already made by readers.
5. Community rules
Share only content you have the right to share. Keep posts respectful and appropriate for an Islamic community. Do not submit abuse, obscenity, harassment, threats, hateful or sexually exploitative material, instructions for harm, promotion of prohibited conduct, attacks on Islam, encouragement to leave Islam, spam, impersonation, or another person’s private information. Sincere questions and requests for help are welcome; unclear cases need human review. Do not try to identify anonymous writers or evade moderation, blocks or service limits.
Daraja may reject or remove content and restrict access to protect people, enforce these Terms or meet legal obligations. You can report a reflection, hide a person’s posts, or contact support. Community reactions do not determine religious merit, and other people’s reflections are their own views.
6. Pacts
A Pact is a voluntary agreement among its members about goals, schedules and check-ins. Joining allows the group to see the information shared within that Pact. Only share writing you intend its members to read. Members can keep their own copies of what they receive.
Pact content is encrypted for members’ devices, while the service handles membership and delivery information. Daraja cannot recover content without the required keys. Leaving a group cannot erase copies that other members already received.
7. Storage, backup and account choices
The Privacy Policy explains local storage, optional encrypted backups and sync, account identifiers, service records and deletion. Signing in does not automatically enable backup or sync. Protect your recovery code: signing in alone cannot unlock an encrypted journal on another device.
You can stop using optional services and use the account and data controls in Settings. Exported files and shared copies are under the control of whoever receives them. Keep any readable export somewhere private.
8. Availability and your rights
Daraja may change features or interrupt a service for maintenance, safety or other operational needs. Private testing features may be limited or withdrawn. Do not depend on an automated check, network service or reminder for an emergency.
To the extent permitted by law, Daraja does not promise uninterrupted service, perfect recognition, or that every error can be prevented. Nothing in these Terms excludes rights or remedies that the law does not allow us to exclude. Apple’s terms continue to apply to your App Store use and any transaction with Apple.
9. Changes to these Terms
The version and date identify the Terms shown when you continue from onboarding. We will make updated Terms available in the app and give notice of material changes before they apply, obtaining renewed agreement where required. A change to these Terms does not replace a permission or separate consent required for new data processing.
